How To Use Facebook Ads to Get a Journalism Job

by Shawn Smith on February 5, 2010

facebook-logoA friend of mine asked me recently, ‘how can I use Facebook targeting to advertise jobs or get hired?’

I started by writing out the lengthy Facebook reply, but for some reason, FB wouldn’t send the mail…. So here I will share it with everyone! YAY! :)

I’ll break this up into two posts “Advertising a Job” and “Getting Hired” using Facebook ads.

1. Click on Advertising at the bottom of the page on Facebook.com (While
completely logged out)
2. Click “Create an Ad” (green button)
3. Create a “test” ad by going through steps 1-3 (Title: “test” Body: “test”
URL: “www.facebook.com”)
4. When prompted to log in at “Facebook Login”, make sure to “Create a new
account”
5. Input an e-mail address that does not match any email address that
Facebook has on record already.
6. Verify e-mail address through your inbox
7. Input credit card information
8. Business Account created
9. Do not click “Create Your Profile” within this account

Facebook advertising, you most likely want to go with the CPC model. This means you only pay when you get a click. Facebook will give each ad roughly 10,000 impressions (that means it will be shown to your target demo roughly 10,000 times) to get a click.

I can’t waste much on this. However, I tried advertising using google ads and put the name of the company owners as my keyword.

When my target employer searched his name on google, he finds my ad right on top.

After a few months and several interview, I got a job, and it costed me roughly $10 only.

Well, wise and good decision that you spend you buck worthy. You spend less and it backs to you as big.

I wonder how it is like to be working at Facebook’s office. I’ve seen Google’s office in Mountain View and it’s spectacular. If I have the chance to visit FB, I would surely go… Hopefully someone will invite me.

I did not know Facebook could be that useful. I only used it as Marketing Tool by making a Facebook Page for my company and suggesting it to friends then friends of friends. I’ll try if I can get a good income from this ‘Journalism Job’ you are talking. Thanks for the input!

Regards,

Brian

That is such a nice tip!

I will try that and maybe I can get a lot of income from Facebook. I already have thousands of friends and thousands of people in my facebook pages and I know they can help.

Thanks!

Mark
