I ran across this handy tool that those of you enterprising producers and reporters might find useful.
YouTube Podcaster is a site that can create a RSS feed or Podcast feed of just about any query you can enter into YouTube.
If your news org prides itself on keeping tabs on its community, using YTP might be a great way to stay updated with the latest videos produced by local residents.
The instructions are simple: Visit YouTube, type in your query. Next, grab the URL string and paste it into the YouTube Podcaster site. The following video will show you an example (and don’t worry, there’s no sound – at least, I didn’t hear anything).
So instead of hunting around YouTube typing in your community name and stumbling across videos you’ve seen over and over, subscribe to a feed of that query string and have those videos sent directly to your Google Reader account or your iTunes.
By using RSS, community reporters can allow the content to come to them and cut down on all the time they spend hunting for stories or content to cover. Sound like a timesaver?
What do you think?
