Online news sites should fail and fail quickly - then try again

Community jouralism proponents Rob Curley, Dan Gilmore and Jay Rosen have some resounding advice for online news sites: Try everything and don’t be afraid to fail.
Driving the point home, Gilmore quoted WashingtonPost.com Executive Editor Jim Brady as saying “If you’re not failing at least a couple times a year, you’re not trying hard enough.”
Curley had equally positive sentiment toward trying new things: “If it fails, who cares? At least we failed trying. ”
Gilmore pounded on the idea that the costs are minimal at best for web heads to try new products and new ways of doing things. So minimal, in fact, that trying new things that ultimately fail is OK!
And for parting advice that should get some people moving: “If you’re not doing these experiments, please understand there are people who are.”
